Back to School Sales Tax Holiday Dates

It’s that time of year again when some states offer Back to School sales tax holiday dates where the purchase of certain products comes free from state sales tax. Unfortunately due to the current economic conditions, some states have put on hold their sales tax holiday promotions which they have had in years passed — most notably Florida and Massachusetts. The following is a list of the states which will have a sales tax holiday in 2009 and what dates the sales tax holiday will be held:

The savings by shopping on these days varies depending on what the sales tax rate is for each state. Some stats also include a sales tax holiday from local sales taxes which can bring qualifying purchases to close to 10%.

Michigan Sales Tax Holiday dates

Michigan has not announced that they will hold any sales tax holiday promotions in 2009.

I’m guessing that’s because they have never done it prior and I for one am not holding my breath that they ever will/would.

Michigan has actaully proposed sales tax holiday bills from 2006 on (and again this year), but none of these bills has ever passed into law.
