Once I made I home safely, I found that blog reader Samantha has sent me a bunch (and I mean a bunch – Samantha works at a newspaper and sent me all the extra inserts they were going to throw away) of Nature Valley Nut Cluster $1.00 off 1 coupons. It turns out that even without an eCoupon, the Nature Valley Nut Clusters are a $1.00 Moneymaker this week because they are triggering the Nature Valley Catalina Coupon. This is how the scenario works

They are part of the Safeway Buy 4, Save $4.00 instantly program. It turns out that you don’t have to buy in increments of 4, so if you buy 5 Nature Valley Nut Clusters, you get $5.00 off making them $1.49 each.

Use five $1.00 off 1 Nature Valley Nut Clusters coupons from the General Mills 8/8 Sunday newspaper coupon insert brings down the price to $0.49 each.

You pay $2.45, but you receive a $3.50 Catalina coupon back good on anything on your next purchase. That means if you buy another 5 Nature Valley Nut Clusters, use another 5 $1.00 off 1 coupons and the $3.50 Catalina coupon you just received, you can buy $1.05 of anything you want, get it all for free and receive another $3.50 Catalina coupon. Wash, rinse, repeat.

I ended up buying 120 packages of Nature Valley Nut Clusters:

While all of these coupons are decent, the $1 off produce coupon can mean quite a bit of free produce if there are any free product deals this month. All you need to do is buy $5.00 at Safeway (before coupons) and you get $1.00 of any produce you want for free.

For example, if you do the Kraft Deli Deluxe Cheese deal this week you can tack on $1.00 worth of any produce you want as well and get it all for free.

The Safeway bread coupon can also mean free bread since this bread is sometimes put on sale for $0.99. Well worth grabbing a few if you see them — these coupon booklets always disappear fast.

Peelie coupons (usually referred to as “peelies”) are coupons that you can find stuck on the outside of a product in the store. You can peel them off like a sticker and hand them to the cashier when you check out. Make sure to read before peeling off the coupon because occasionally peelies will state “only valid when removed by the cashier at the time of purchase.” If you do leave the peelies on, make sure to let the cashier know about it as they will often miss them when scanning your items.

A few examples of peelies are “save $1 off this box of kellogg’s cereal” or “buy any 2 bags of ruffles potato chips and get a FREE ruffles dip!” or “Buy one get one free!” Peelies can be found just about everywhere on just about anything. Shampoo, diapers, cold medicine, green beans, or salad dressing.

Unlike most stores Walmart will actually let you combine the peelie coupons with other manufacturer coupons to get even greater savings.

If you find peelies, it is acceptable to take one or two of them if you know that you will use them at a later date, but it is not coupon courteous to take all of the peelies off all of the products so that nobody else has a chance to take advantage of these coupons.

Take extra care to look for these coupons when you walk up and down the grocery store aisles. There are probably a lot more of them available than you ever thought and once you start to recognize that peelies are there, you will begin to spot them more frequently.

The new site

is designed to provide a huge reference of searchable commercial kitchen-tested recipes (like the ones from Betty Crocker, Pillsbury, and their other brands), along with your own recipes, and share them with friends and family. You can also rate the commercial recipes.

There is also a large block of 100 printable coupons to go along with the recipes. (The site is currently in beta testing, but I understand the coupons will link up with recipes soon). The printable coupons are powered by Coupons.com, and include some from the coupons.com monthly site, as well as other coupons exclusive for site members.

I’ve been a member of their advisory board and rewards program for years, and in all honesty they are aware I can’t use SAM-E since my accident, as it may interact with some of my other meds. Still, it’s a nice change. I’m always encouraging people to sign up for newsletters, advisory panels, and send emails with compliments to manufacturers of their favorite products. Usually people just receive free product coupons, loads of free products to try, coupons to share. A few people have even received trips to California to participate in panels in person, and my sister even received a nice trip to Disneyland. But a job offer is always interesting.

The job offer was extended to their advisory board, people who have used the product and people who have been on their product panels, as well as people who visit their special product website. “Applications” have closed, but still…who knows what the next email may bring in.
