Oh, back to the menstrual supplies bargains thread o'male embarrassment:

Ladies, I cannot recommend strongly enough cloth, sewn, reusable pads and pantyliners. Some people soak them, other don't and just throw them in with the laundry. I just throw mine in with a COLD water load, and all's well. They are not any trouble at all. If you sew, they are cheap and easy to make from scrap (you could have anything from stars and moons to Kermit the Frog to Optimus Prime inside your panties. Noone will know). You can order them online, too. Please support a homebased, small crafting business by shopping online at places like etsy. There are free sewing patterns for different styles online. Just pick the pattern you like and that's within your seamstress skillset. When sewing your own,line them with fleece or PUL for liquid blocking. I've even known women who cut down a free/yardsale/thriftshop windbreaker and used that water resistant fabric for a layer. Mine have a back layer of polar fleece and are great and have held up well through many months of laundering. They are easy to sew. Use snaps instead of velcro for fastening, though. Seriously, think about it. Sewn, reusable cloth pads are HUGELY more absorbent and so, so, so, so, SOOOOO much more comfortable.

Instead of tampons, try a Diva Cup or Moon Cup. The price pays for itself in about 2 years, and they last for at least 10.

@Joan,

No tax on food where I am now, but I travel quite a bit across state borders, so if I do go where there is tax on food, then that will count against my dollar a day.

That receipt brings to mind something I had not initially thought to ask about the ground rules. That is-- whether your dollar a day includes tax. I see that food is not taxed where you are. Here, you'd need an extra 5.01 cents for every dollar's worth of food. I'm pretty sure you have to pay tax on the value of coupons as well.
