What is a coupon?
A coupon comes in many forms. The most popular form is paper, but digital is becoming more popular. Cash-back opportunities follow closely behind. Sometimes coupons can be for a percentage or money off your entire purchase. However, with grocery coupons, you will typically get a dollar amount off of one or more specific items. The coupon has terms and conditions printed on it. They tell you how many items you need to buy, what items qualify, how much you will receive off at check out, and how many coupons you can use per transaction or day. Sometimes it may even have a specific store you can redeem it in. Essentially, everything you need to know about using that coupon is on that coupon.
Where can you use them?
You can use them at many different stores. Most of your national grocery stores are going to accept them. Mom-and-pop grocery stores and discount stores are a little more tricky. You may have to call them to verify whether or not they accept coupons. Unless a coupon has specific exclusions or redemption terms for a particular store, you can pretty much use it anywhere coupons are accepted.
Planning your shopping trip
The trick with couponing is you’re going to plan your coupon use around sales for that current week. Once you have located grocery deals online and put your shopping list together, start pairing your coupons. Get organized and pull out the correct coupons you need for the upcoming trip. Be sure they are all valid before you head into the store. If you’re not great at organizing or recognizing which coupons you use, cheat by using a deal website. They tell you where the coupon is located, how many you need, and what items to get.
How to use coupons?
Once organized, go on your shopping trip. After your items are scanned at the register, hand the cashier your coupons. Make sure you pull out any coupons you don’t need before you get to the register. Otherwise, it can cause confusion during the checkout process. The cashier will scan all of your coupons, and they will come off your total. Once done, pay as usual and enjoy the savings.
