Can You Buy Just One Item?
This is a tricky question, and the answer is yes and no. BOGO deals are beneficial at some stores but not others. There are several reasons why. Some stores will not allow you to take advantage of a Bogo deal unless you purchase two items. Take, for instance, Walgreens. You have to purchase two items to observe the savings. Otherwise, you’re stuck paying full price. At other stores like Publix, you only need to buy one item to get half off. Those are the kind of BOGO deals that are worth your money. I don’t know about you, but I do not like being forced to purchase more items than I need just to save money.
Price Hikes
Another thing you should look out for when going for BOGO deals is whether or not the store engages in price hiking. Oftentimes, you’ll notice that some stores have similar items to others, but their prices are sometimes double in price. If the store engages in price hiking, buying at BOGO only brings it down to its true value. That doesn’t mean much savings for you. For stores like that, I recommend just going somewhere else. This is one reason why we comparison shop. Truly make a note of which stores offer competitive pricing on their items, and stick to those retailers.
I love BOGO deals. When the items are priced correctly, and I’m saving money, they work for me.
